When
it comes to promoting our lovely Island and being proud of its
people, definitely Labour doesn't have the quintessential manner.
At
first, the Minister of Finance, Hon. Edward Scicluna, tried so hard
to make it a point that the Individual
Investor Programme (IIP) had nothing to do with
the government deficit or due to a weary financial status.
However, a few seconds later he made a counterargument that
rebutted what he had just stated: "yes the deficit does count
in the sense that the government's hands are tied with fiscal
governance and keeping the deficit below 3% and therefore
we wanted another medium to handle investment... long-term
investment..."
Hon.
Scicluna stated that the investment programme must be developed and this
will incorporate more bonding by 'the investors' with Malta. The
person will come here and will reside in Malta and ideally will have
some property in Malta as well. Nevertheless, Hon.
Scicluna didn't mentioned how, when or even if these
criteria will be put down in black and white.
Ironically,
the fiasco by Hon. Scicluna was carried out just a few
hours before the loss of Nelson Mandela. A statesman who was so
proud of his compatriots. One can find numerous inspiring quotes and
may also make a 'top ten Nelson Mandela quotes of all time', but
among these they will never find such a disparaging quote regarding
his South African countrymen, as the one propounded by Prof.
Scicluna earlier today: "Malta being short of certain people of
calibre...."
Not
in my name...
So according to Scicluna, calibre equals money... Great
